Chapter 309 Are you here to gain experience?
The crossbow bolt pierced the ground three inches deep, its fletching trembling against the stone surface, the arrowhead only half an inch away from Wei Xinghe's boots.
Wei Xinghe took a half step back, his boots leaving the center line of the red carpet, and pointed at Wen Yue.
"Those who use crossbows to intimidate people in the base's hangar should be disarmed according to the Dragon Guard Military Law, and then given a major demerit."
Wen Yue confiscated the crossbow.
"I'll draw a line on the ground, and you step on it yourself. In military law, that's called trespassing."
The leading officer tucked the folder under his arm and positioned himself half a body length between the two men.
"Comrade Wen Yue, please put this away."
"Mr. Wei's appointment came from the Joint Training Office of the General Command, and the procedures were complete. There was no need to make such a scene in the hangar."
Lu Yan raised his hand and pressed down on Wen Yue's wrist as she prepared to pluck the strings.
"Put the crossbows back."
Wen Yue loosened the bowstring, but the arrow remained embedded in the ground.
"Captain Lu, he wants the captain's position."
"So first, ask him about his bill."
Lu Yan turned to Wei Xinghe and stopped in front of the mud footprints on the outside of the red carpet.
"The team leader's authority includes the squad's survival, firepower deployment, and evacuation order."
"What combat record do you have to offer to take this position?"
Wei Xinghe raised his chin slightly.
"In the Northern Joint Battlefield, I have completed three S-level assault simulations, with an individual soldier rating of 98."
"During the Southwest Joint Training, I led two rounds of command simulations, and the casualty control rate ranked first in the same period."
"The materials from the Joint Training Office should have already been delivered to your desk."
He patted the armor on his chest.
"Forged by the chief blacksmith of Tiangongfang, this is a three-layered defense module with a matching shield core."
Wei Xinghe then reached for the gold-inlaid dagger at his waist.
"Sky-Splitting Cone, Grade A Attack Artifact."
"With adequate equipment, the team can naturally advance to higher combat zones."
Lin Chuxue crumpled the candy wrapper into a small ball and slammed the Blood Pool Howling Staff into the stone surface.
The blood-red patterns on the staff pressed along the edge of the red carpet, and Wei Xinghe's breastplate automatically opened up three layers of light shields.
The light shield rotated along the outer edge of the armor, even pushing his adjutant two steps back.
Lin Chuxue tilted her head.
"You're quite sensible, Jia. The first thing you did when you saw the staff was to get yourself admitted to the hospital."
Wei Xinghe pressed down on the breastplate.
"Automatic defense module, don't mess with it with your staff."
"It jumped out by itself."
Lin Chuxue hoisted the staff onto her shoulder.
"Then it's more suitable for the front row than you are."
Zhao Leiguang coughed and pressed his two shields to the ground.
"That makes sense; at least the armored soldiers didn't steal the captain's position."
The officer's brow furrowed.
"Team Leader Lu, Mr. Wei has a very high resource rating. The Joint Training Office arranged for him to join the team in order to strengthen the First Squad."
Lu Yan took the document and turned to the authorization terms.
"Mr. Joint Training, you can accompany the team for observation and submit tactical reports."
"There is no entry in the document regarding taking over the command chain of active duty squads."
The officer reached for the document, but Lu Yan closed the cover first.
"Mr. Wei will join the first squad and be treated as a regular member."
"Passed the entry test, completed three missions during the training period, and had no record of disobeying orders."
"We'll talk about the command interface later."
The officer stood by the red carpet, his shoes covered in mud from the rocks Kunlun had brought back.
"This is something that will be difficult to explain to the headquarters."
"The Joint Training Office signed the appointment letter from Mr. [Name]."
Lu Yan handed the document back.
"The captain's authority is still within the first squad structure."
Wei Xinghe took the dagger from his waist and flipped it halfway in his palm.
"Okay, you choose the location."
"In real combat, I will make you take back what you said today."
Lu Yan reported the coordinates.
"Twelve kilometers outside the North District base, there is an abandoned molybdenum mine resource site."
"The terrain is open, and low-level monsters often hunt for food on the outskirts."
"We'll depart in half an hour."
The molybdenum mine in the North District ceased operations three years ago. Two layers of the screening tower broke, and the conveying pipe lay across the gravel slope.
A rusted fence stood around the mining area, with gaps in it that had been knocked askew by the monster.
The resource point is marked as a Class F cleanup zone, indicating low surface threat, making it suitable for new recruits to practice.
Lu Yan added three more test rules.
"The target will be handled independently by Wei Xinghe."
"The squad only observes, they don't finish off enemies."
"Unregistered consumables disabled, armor triggered three layers, test aborted."
Wei Xinghe nodded.
That's enough.
When the transport vehicle drove out of the outer wall of the North Zone, the first team had not changed into heavy equipment.
Zhao Lei put on an old tactical vest, locked both shields in the corner of the carriage, leaving only one training shield.
Wen Yue removed her shoulder armor, replaced the World-Destroying Thunder Crossbow with a short crossbow, and loaded the quiver with ordinary rangefinding arrows.
Xiao Qianyu's Dragon King Halberd remained in the base's armory, with a standard short blade hanging at her waist.
Qin Wuyi carried a canvas bag containing only six practice array plates.
Lin Chuxue changed into light armor, but still carried her staff on her back.
Su Yunqing carried a medical kit containing basic shield modules.
Zhao Lei leaned against the car door and asked Qin Wuyi.
"Are six plates enough?"
"Two low-level monsters are enough for testing."
"What if he destroys the resource point?"
Qin Wuyi fastened the canvas bag tightly.
"Then we'll have to add another plate."
Wen Yue sat on the other side of the carriage.
"Say less, Mr. Wei is reciting practical combat techniques."
Zhao Leiguang looked up at the row in front of him.
Wei Xinghe closed his eyes and recited the assault procedures compiled by the Joint Training Office.
"Target located, distance locked, artifact activated, decapitation complete."
Lin Chuxue bit into the candy.
"The process is quite short."
Wen Yue added a sentence.
"The monster hasn't participated in joint training, so it might not be willing to cooperate."
The roadblocks outside the resource point were pushed aside, and the transport vehicle stopped in front of the screening tower.
Lu Yan drew white lines on the gravel ground; the area inside the lines was the testing zone, and the area outside the lines was the observation zone.
Wei Xinghe stepped into the arena, drew his gold-inlaid dagger from its sheath, and fastened the Sky-Splitting Cone to his waist.
Two low-level demonic wolves darted out from under the broken conveyor pipe.
They are small in size, with short gray-brown hair covering their backs, and their claws drag over pebbles, circling around to the sides.
Wei Xinghe first drew his dagger, then reached for the Sky-Splitting Cone; the two actions collided.
The dagger sliced through the glove and fell into the slag at his feet.
The wolf on the left lowered its forelimbs and tentatively took half a step forward.
Wei Xinghe pulled out the Sky-Splitting Cone, and the magical artifact emitted a blade of light that grazed the wolf's ear and cut into the material conveyor behind it.
A section of the iron frame broke off and crashed into the pile of rubble.
The wolf on the right used the rubble as cover to change positions and circle around behind him.
Wei Xinghe turned around too quickly, and the second blade of light landed in the open space.
On his third attempt, he aimed his crosshair at the wolf's back.
The wolf leaped sideways in advance, its blade flashing as it skimmed its fur and burrowed into the ruined tower wall.
Three attacks missed, and the wolf's pelt remained unscathed.
The simulations in the rear are good at calculating the win rate, but in the actual field, the ground, wind direction and monster habits are factored into the variables.
Points can't stop the claws.
Wen Yue's short crossbow remained at the observation post, without being raised.
"The wolves in the synthetic field listen for whistles, but the wild wolves do not accept documents from the Joint Training Office."
The two demonic wolves closed in at the same time.
Wei Xinghe stepped back, his heel sinking into the loose soil, half of his shoe sole sinking into the pit.
The wolf pounced, its claws striking the first layer of light shield.
The light shield shattered into large pieces of light, and the wolf's body was bounced back half a meter.
The right wolf pounced on his shoulder, the second layer of light shield blocking the beast's claws, and three deep marks appeared on the outer shell of his armor.
Wei Xinghe brandished his dagger to force back the right wolf, while the left wolf lunged at his leg armor from the side.
The third layer of light shield unfolds, with the wolf fangs wedged into the outer edge of the shield surface.
Zhao Leiguang picked up the training shield and stood outside the white painted line.
"This turtle's shell is hard enough; it would make a suitable punching bag."
Shen Xinglin stood next to him.
"There is a quota for sandbags."
"Today's quota has been used up."
Wei Xinghe pushed himself up from the rubble, his collar button askew below his shoulder armor, his medals on his chest clanking loudly.
Lu Yan spoke.
"Test complete, move out of bounds."
Wei Xinghe did not move.
"Just two low-level monsters."
He pulled out a small silver box from his waist, the lid popped open, and a crimson crystal rolled into his palm.
Wen Yue raised her short crossbow.
"This is not on the registration list, take it back."
Wei Xinghe inserted the crystal ball into the base of the split cone.
"In real-world scenarios, who waits for the list to be approved?"
The one-time burst item was activated, the crystal shattered into several pieces, and the shockwave swept across the mine from the front of the Rift Cone.
The two demonic wolves were thrown into the rubble heap, with rubble and broken iron tumbling around them.
Large pieces of ash shell fell off the outer wall of the screening tower.
The ground shook violently.
Dust rushed up from the abandoned wells and cracks, covering the white painted lines.
Wen Yue's three rangefinding arrows were driven into the ground, and the frequency of the arrow shafts jumping became increasingly rapid.
Qin Wuyi took out the practice array plate, and the pointer on the plate deflected towards the abandoned well.
There's something underground.
Lu Yan raised the Void Disc, and the scanning lines passed through the mineral layers.
"Seven heads."
"Levels 58 to 63, high-level rock beasts."
Stratigraphic scanning of resource site archives stopped three years ago.
The report only examined the surface waste; the cavities beneath the main ore vein were not re-examined.
The surveying fees saved will eventually be used to make up for casualties on the battlefield.
The edge of the abandoned well collapsed, and the first rock beast emerged from the ore layer.
Its carapace is covered with a thick rocky shell, its shoulders are inlaid with unrefined mineral crystals, and when its four claws land, gravel rolls outwards.
The second and third heads emerged from different mine pits, blocking the evacuation route of the transport vehicle.
Deep inside, the rock beast raised its head, and crimson fragments left by Wei Xinghe's explosive artifact were still embedded in the seams of its shell.
Zhao Leiguang planted the training shield in the ground.
"Mr. Wei, you have a good eye for choosing props."
"You've turned an F-grade resource point into a high-level beast nest."
Wei Xinghe raised the Sky-Splitting Cone, about to give an order.
Lu Yan interrupted him.
"Test terminated. You do not have command authority."
"Stand inside the white line and don't move your equipment."
Wen Yue climbed onto the broken platform of the ore screening tower and pressed her short crossbow down toward the edge of the mine pit.
Qin Wuyi arranged the six practice array plates into a semicircle, blocking the route for the rock beast to approach the transport vehicle.
Zhao Leiguang retrieved the training shield, and Shen Xinglin drew his standard short blade, placing it on the outside of the array plate.
Lin Chuxue tapped her staff.
"Can we still fight freely this time?"
Lu Yan looked into the depths of the abandoned well.
The rock beasts trampled through the fence, and the ground in the mining area trembled once again.
"Let's collect Mr. Wei's tuition fees first."
