Chapter 149 Small Gifts

Chapter 149 Small Gifts

Chapter 149 Small Gifts

Perhaps it was the outstanding performance of the field practice class that made Harry and his two friends realize that their suffering during this period was not in vain.

They devoted themselves even more diligently to the strategy for conquering Nymgford.

Finally, one evening at the end of January, a cheer interrupted Hermione's spellcasting.

The three boys haphazardly pulled their heads out of the Pensieve and hugged each other in celebration.

"We won! We won! The evil Tree Guardian has been defeated!" Harry cheered.

"It was incredibly difficult. Apart from Harry's chains, our attacks were like tickling the heavily armored knights," Neville exclaimed.

"That's not entirely true. If I hadn't blocked that fatal blow for him at the crucial moment, we probably would have had to start all over again!" Ron retorted, unconvinced.

"Yeah, you did block the tree guard's halberd, but you almost got smashed into the ground and couldn't get out," Harry laughed.

"Luckily, Neville was quick enough to pull you out, otherwise you would probably have experienced being split in two again."

"Yes, Neville's Levitation Charm was really beautiful. It affected the Tree Guardian's center of gravity. I didn't expect that this move could be used against mounted knights like this!" Ron praised, while Neville scratched his head sheepishly.

"I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but I still have to tell you that the Tree Guardians in the later levels are practically just regular enemies," Hermione said quietly.

The tree guardians protecting the royal city of Rodel are far stronger than the one roaming Nymgford, not to mention Fam...

Azra's dragon-armored tree guardian.

There are also Forge Knights, Kalia Knights, Hound Knights, Corrupted Knights, Headless Lost Home Knights, and so on. Each of them has its own strengths, and they all tormented the Faded Ones to the point of near death back then.

"I think we've got the hang of it!" Harry said confidently.

"Even if the enemies later become stronger, they won't hold us off for a whole month like the guardian tree did!"

He naively imagined that he could make a living by having one trick up his sleeve.

Hermione smiled without saying a word, only realizing how bitter it truly was when she personally experienced the bitterness that followed.

"Hermione! Time to give us your gift! We won this bet!" Ron shouted, this might be the only chance he'd ever have to beat Hermione.

"Yeah, yeah! What's the gift? I haven't seen you prepare anything extra lately!" Harry asked expectantly.

Hermione casually knocked the giant rat unconscious and led everyone back to the Pensieve: "Let's go, this gift needs to be redeemed in the spiritual world."

Like ink dripping into water, the billowing smoke forms a black and white scene, and then splashes of color fill it in, making the whole world come alive and real in an instant.

The three returned to the border area. They stood between the gentle slope and the lawn. The tree that had been guarding the house was still lying on the ground, and it seemed that nothing had changed.

Meanwhile, the adult version of Hermione the Finger Witch appeared behind them at some point.

"A battle that wasn't great, but it was still inspiring," said the Finger Witch.

"The journey of adventure is fraught with danger, heroes. You need some new magic to enhance your combat power. So, the gift is the new magic!" Ron exclaimed excitedly.

"This hero's journey is just right! I remember you don't read Rider novels, Hermione?" Harry laughed.

The witch smiled: "Based on your performance these past few days, I will teach each of you a spell or skill, which I believe is the most suitable combat spell for you."

She looked at Harry first: "First of all, as the assault soldier in the team, Harry, you bear the responsibility of dealing the most damage. For you now, the increasingly sophisticated magical weapon combination chain is enough to break through the defenses of most enemies. Even heavily armored knights or steel tanks will find it difficult to withstand your attacks for long."

"But the most serious problem is that you are very likely to miss your target."

Harry nodded in agreement. In the battle against the Tree Guardians, apart from the first attack which gave him a shock because the opponent didn't know the strength of the attack, it was difficult for them to get close to the mounted knights after that. Hermione had set their intelligence to be quite high.

After discovering that Harry was the only one who could hurt him, the Tree Guardians kept avoiding him, even using their warhorses' high speed to run around Ron and Neville, keeping Harry constantly on the run.

"Perhaps this situation will improve a lot once you become stronger and learn flight magic, but by then you should also have more powerful attack spells."

"Therefore, I will teach you a night magic called 'Invisible Blade' to make up for your current temporary weakness."

The Invisible Blade—a type of night magic from the magical town of Seria—can completely erase the appearance of weapons in one's hand. In the past, it was a technique used by assassins to disguise themselves as unarmed.

In the borderlands, this magic is actually quite useless, because the invisible blade cannot coexist with other weapon enhancement magic and will cancel out the effect of the previous one attached to the weapon. Therefore, assassins can only use ordinary weapons to assassinate those mages who do not wear heavy armor.

But in this world, whether it was due to changes in the underlying rules or subtle differences in magical properties, the invisible blade did not dissolve other enhancements on the weapon. After Hermione discovered this characteristic, she immediately thought of Harry's new tactic.

With the steel chain gauntlet imbued with magical weapons and the invisible blades used to erase any traces, Harry, sporting an innocent-looking childlike face, approached the enemy as if surrendering, and then, taking them by surprise, delivered a skull-crushing blow with violent aesthetics!

Or perhaps he's wearing an invisibility cloak, wielding a similarly bullet-disappearing weapon, and wreaking havoc in the crowd—the image is brutal to even contemplate.

She took out her silver-white staff, reached out and wiped it, and the metal staff disappeared completely. The three of them looked at her empty hand, and then each of them was tapped on the head.

"This is great! This is great! It suits my style perfectly!" Harry was overjoyed. Since arriving at the border, he had been gradually transforming from a reckless and impulsive fool into someone who was adept at insidious tactics.

However, Hermione did not immediately begin teaching, but instead turned to Ron: "Your magical shield, combined with your extremely strong shield wand, has almost reached the limit of defensive power that can be achieved at present. I'm afraid even the Ironclad Charm cast by the professors is not as durable as yours."

"But your problem is also obvious: your attack power is too weak. You can only rely on petrification spells and binding spells for support. Although you are quite qualified as the team's shield, I think you still need to master some means that can threaten the enemy."

"If you simply act as a turtle shell, the enemy can ignore you and prioritize dealing with your teammates, leaving you helpless."

Ron retorted, somewhat unconvinced: "I also have a short sword, and if we add a magical weapon—"

"Then you would be an excellent medieval shield bearer." Hermione ruthlessly shattered his illusions.

"Watch closely." She said, and with a wave of her hand, the tree guardian on the ground stood up as if time had reversed, and it regained its life.

Only the knight filled with hatred saw the three men who had just killed him, turned his horse around, and prepared to charge again.

"Stay away," she ordered the three men, then faced alone the large tree guards who were riding towards her, their golden halberds raised high.

Although the three boys were a little worried, they stopped making any moves because they knew this was her mental world.

Hermione's staff glowed with a fluorescent blue light, the effect of a magical weapon.

Then, just as the tree guard rushed over and slammed down his halberd, she blocked with both hands and was jolted back. The massive, heavily armored cavalryman was not only interrupted in his attack but also lost his balance and almost fell off his horse.

Hermione pressed her advantage, immediately unleashing a flurry of blows with her radiant Kalia Swiftblade, shattering the golden armor into pieces.

However, since it was just a demonstration, she did not continue the pursuit. While the tree guard adjusted his position, Hermione waved her hand, stopping his time and freezing him and his horse in place.
