Chapter 18 Defense Lesson
Chapter 18 Defense Lesson
Finally, the first-year wizards had their first lesson on anti-wizard technology defense.
Hermione dressed early and sat in the classroom with Harry and Ron, trying not to give Lucius any chance to cause trouble.
Draco entered surrounded by several students, like a star of anti-wizard technology defense. This class was practically his home turf. Even when he saw Hermione watching him, he didn't panic at all; the mountain behind him made him feel reliable.
"That's outrageous. Even Harry wasn't this arrogant in Potions class," Ron criticized.
"Hey Ron, your swearing is getting dirtier and dirtier!" Harry said, annoyed.
Hermione turned to the last page of the textbook. She had just finished reading the book for the second time and had already memorized most of the key points.
At that moment, Lucius Malfoy, like a proud platinum peacock, walked into the classroom with drum-like steps, leaning on his cane.
He first scanned the entire class, his gaze lingering on Hermione for a long time, his eyes filled with undisguised malice.
"The Anti-Witchcraft Defense Techniques Class was formerly known as the Defense Against the Dark Arts Class. Back then, wizards simply believed that only dark magic could harm noble wizards."
Unexpectedly, he didn't start by picking a fight, but instead gave a very serious opening speech.
"But the upheaval in the world dealt a heavy blow to the wizards. Nuclear weapons destroyed everything, and the curse of eternal winter has not stopped to this day. Goblins and Muggles joined forces to forge monsters of steel. Fantastic creatures were mutated by radiation and mixed with ordinary creatures, producing countless mutant beasts that are still difficult to classify to this day..." He spoke slowly, as if reciting poetry.
"In this broken world, the old order and customs are no longer suitable for the new era. You, the hope of the wizarding world, carry the seeds of humanity's future. Only by not being bound by the old can you create a bright tomorrow!"
His earnest speech was so moving that Hermione would have been touched if she hadn't already known what kind of person he was.
"Miss Granger!"
Sure enough, before anyone could react, Lucius suddenly launched an attack.
"Yes, Professor." Hermione readily stood up.
"In the past few days, I've heard professors from various departments praising you. Now, let's see if you live up to their reputation," Lucius sneered.
"What circumstances would cause a young wizard to spawn an Obscurus?"
"An extremely oppressive environment, magic-related trauma, self-loathing, conscious suppression of one's own power, external devastation, etc., Professor." This question was too easy. Hermione felt that Lucius looked down on her and stared straight at him.
"Just reading from the textbook!" Lucius scoffed without hesitation. "Does our excellent little witch only know how to read from the book?"
He walked over and bowed slightly: "Let me tell you, in your Muggle communities, wizards whose magic is out of control are treated as demons and jinxes, and are subjected to extremely harsh treatment. According to the latest survey, the probability of Obscurians being born in Muggle communities is increasing year by year, and the damage they cause is getting greater and greater!"
"So that's what they were waiting for," Hermione thought. "Using a question to put me down while simultaneously spreading the idea that Muggles are ignorant. They're really good at this."
She looked up: "The reason for the large number of Obscurians is not Muggles, but prejudice and ignorance. It has nothing to do with the distinction between Muggles and wizards. War destroyed education, prejudice exacerbated the divide, and even among wizards, there are fools who believe in pure-blood dogma..."
"Hermione Granger!" Lucius interrupted her coldly, "Disrespecting a professor, 5 points deducted from Gryffindor!"
The entire class fell silent, everyone watching as Hermione defiantly confronted the professor.
The little witch didn't comment on this, but instead turned her head and snapped her fingers, hanging a speck of starlight on Draco's head.
"What are you doing?!" Lucius asked, frowning.
"It's nothing, just marking it, Professor."
"Playing pranks on classmates, another 5 points deducted from Gryffindor!"
Hermione didn't speak, but flicked another starlight at Draco's head. The two tiny starlights intertwined and spun, emitting a bright blue light that reflected the boy's bewildered expression.
"Twice." Hermione held up two fingers seriously.
"Miss Granger, if you continue your childish behavior, I will expel you from the classroom for disrupting the class!" Lucius said firmly, though he seemed a little surprised.
"I'll hit Draco," Hermione said, holding up two fingers to Lucius. "Twice."
Everyone was stunned. Someone actually threatened to hit the other person's child twice in class, right in front of the professor and the child's father!
But if it's Hermione... she seems capable of doing it...
Draco's face turned pale instantly. Hermione had almost killed him with ease before she even got her wand. Now that she had a wand and had learned even more new knowledge, wouldn't dealing with him be a piece of cake?
He desperately wanted to tell himself that with his father's protection, she simply couldn't do it, nor would she dare to.
But if you ask her if she dares, she seems to genuinely dare!
Actually, if you just keep hiding in the Slytherin common room and don't come out... you still have to attend classes eventually...
Go with the others? There are only four first-year students in Slytherin, probably not enough to defeat Hermione.
Having Dad with me all day? That's unrealistic!
"Either you stay with him all day, or he doesn't come to class. I'll always have a chance."
Hermione's expression was anything but a joke; she had seriously considered the feasibility. The young wizards of the same grade were all taking classes together, so there were too many opportunities to meet. If she was a little late or left a little late after class, it would be very easy to corner Draco in the hallway and beat him up. The professors wouldn't mind if a good student was occasionally a little late.
As for Draco, if he really had the audacity to stay in the common room and always have his father accompany him when he goes out, the Malfoy family would probably lose all face without Hermione even lifting a finger.
Lucius was stunned for a moment when he heard a student talk back to him like this for the first time, especially in such a bizarre way. Then, he immediately flew into a rage: "Talking back to a professor, bullying a classmate—Mudbloods are all lowly creatures! Twenty points deducted from Gryffindor! Take down those disgusting marks from you, or I'll throw you, you filthy little witch, off the tower!"
Magic surged, and Lucius's smooth, platinum-blonde hair flared wildly, making him look like a demon ready to devour its prey.
Hermione stood her ground against him without flinching, and everyone held their breath, unable to imagine what would happen next.
The air seemed to freeze. The next second, Hermione turned her head, waved her hand, and two stars flew back into her hand.
"She backed down?" The thought flashed through the minds of the young wizards and Lucius, while Draco even felt a sense of relief.
"Keep hitting him," Hermione said. "I'll hit him every time I see him. I'll keep hitting him until he becomes an Obscurial."
"???" Not only Lucius, but even Harry and Ron thought Hermione had gone mad. It was the first time they had ever heard of using violence to turn a young wizard into an Obscurial.
