Chapter 221 Destroying the Undying Spear

Chapter 221 Destroying the Undying Spear

Chapter 221 Destroying the Undying Spear

Walking through the long rock corridor, you can see various pipes attached to the ceiling and bright lights, but they are not powered by electricity, but by fairy magic. The lights are just modeled after Muggle light bulbs.

"How many goblins live here?" Dumbledore asked curiously.

"Less than a hundred, that's all the Coexistence faction has left," Gonuk said in a low voice.

"In fact, the Fiery Blaze of the Witchcraft Party almost completely blocked the exit of the Fairy Cave. Only I managed to escape by chance. The rest of us were trapped in the secret realm, watching the black flames slowly engulf the entire secret world."

"I had to do everything I could to curb the raging fire, laying various more heat-resistant materials on the outer layer of the secret passage."

To slow the spread of the fire.

"The long-term burning has shrunk the secret realm a lot, but fortunately our population was not large to begin with, and the remaining part is enough for us to live on."

The number of fairies was not large to begin with. Even the largest group, the Fire Extinction Sect, had less than two thousand members. Yet, their secret realms combined were as large as the whole of Britain. In a sense, the fairies' greed was one of the reasons why humans could not coexist with them. They liked to nitpick over words, valued debt and ownership highly, and tried to possess everything of value.

The faction advocating for coexistence is precisely the one calling for change, which has given them a bad reputation among fairies.

"In the end, you think we're the ones who are wrong in our struggle with humanity? You want us to make changes and concessions first?" The extermination faction asked this question, leaving the coexistence faction completely speechless.

They were labeled as capitulationists and spineless cowards, and their leader, Gonuk, was even called the cowardly Gonuk, all because of this.

But from the perspective of humans, especially Grindelwald, even the Muggles he looked down upon had already occupied most corners of the world. With the goblins' population and strength, why should humans compromise for them?

Even disregarding the wizards' power, a crazed Muggle could wipe out any other creature they could see.

With a population of over a thousand, occupying land comparable in size to the UK, and still not satisfied, wanting more, Grindelwald believed that such a magical race, unable to understand its own place, should be completely exterminated.

Those who advocate coexistence cannot directly tell their fellow citizens, "We are too weak; we must make changes first; we must integrate into their society."

That would further diminish their support from other fairies. Therefore, only a few intelligent fairies willing to open their eyes to the world and understand the strength of humanity were willing to join the Coexistence Faction. And they gathered in this ancient secret realm, almost being wiped out by the betrayal of the Fire Extinction Faction.

"Have you not contacted any other factions of goblins in the years since?" Harry asked.

"I still have a few friends in the Hermit faction, but I don't know if they've been persuaded by the Extinction faction. I can't trust any fairies anymore; the Extinction faction's methods are too terrible." Gonuk shook his head.

As they chatted along the way, they finally emerged from the corridor, where a bright hall suddenly appeared before them.

The same massive brass machinery operated slowly, and a tall Gringotts statue stood in the center of the hall, with a large clock hanging above its head, whether for warning of enemies or for telling time was unknown.

At the foot of the statue were a dozen or so mine carts, corresponding to a dozen or so exits leading in different directions, with metal tracks extending from those exits.

Perhaps because there were so few of them, they hadn't encountered a single other fairy in the vast interior space for so long, but they could hear clanging and jingling sounds coming from different floors.

"It's still early. Let's go to the ancient forge on the ground floor to check on the progress of the Serpent Hunting Spear, then we'll show you around other places, and finally you can try some of the fairy's special delicacies."

As Gonuk spoke, he led everyone onto a minecart. Because there were too many people, they had to move other minecarts from the tracks over, making a total of four carts before everyone could sit down.

The minecart started slowly, but as it left the brass hall, it suddenly accelerated and began to plunge downwards. The metal tracks were suspended in the hollow of the mountain, and the group screamed as they sped along, like a roller coaster with big bends and small turns.

Hermione, with her amazing balance, hung upside down and saw the halls made of pure metal inside the surrounding mountain. They were like a honeycomb, suspended in the hollow mountain and connected by thin tracks. The one they had just come from was the transfer station in the middle.

At the very bottom of the mountain's interior lies a bubbling, red-hot lava pool. A disc-shaped metal structure sits atop the lava, where several fairies dressed only in light shorts are casting spells around a massive bone. Judging by its shape, it is indeed the bone of a basilisk, only smaller than its predecessor.

The mine cart suddenly slowed down just before hitting the metal disc, and the inertia and impact were silently dissipated.

Before getting off the minecart, Dumbledore cast a heat-preserving spell on each child to ensure that no one would suffer from heatstroke. Only then did the group jump off the minecart and walk into the metal disc.

The heatwave here creates gusts of wind that blow up, making it almost impossible to open one's eyes without magical protection.

Gonuk must have given prior notice, because the fairies were not surprised to see a group of humans coming down; they simply nodded slightly and focused their sweating attention on the basilisk skeleton.

"This is an ancient forge, usually used to forge purely magical items. We haven't used it for a long time before we got the basilisk bones," Gonuk explained.

The once enormous, mountain-like skeleton of the basilisk has now been shrunk to a length of about 20 meters and stretched straight. The original skull of the basilisk has been removed and replaced with two thick fangs attached to the cervical vertebrae as spearheads. The basilisk's skull has been moved back behind the spearheads, staring ahead with its empty eye sockets.

Each of its ribs was removed, leaving only the smooth spine, while the long, curved ribs were woven into a fine skeletal coating to strengthen the spear.

There is only a groove in the grip area, which is polished very smoothly so as not to cut your hand.

"For the past two months, we have been using fairy magic to continuously forge and concentrate the essence of the basilisk's bones. The final result will be that it will be compressed to a size that is easy for you humans to hold."

Gonuk explained that a goblin was suspended by a rope, and lava was lifted from below using a specially made metal bucket and poured evenly, drop by drop, onto the bones. Other goblins used their slender fingers to gently rub the bones from a distance, casting a unique spell. Wisps of green smoke rose from the bones, and their size shrank imperceptibly.

"It's amazing how the bone has been shrunk perfectly without any damage, and its dark power from its life has been preserved so well," Dumbledore exclaimed.

"The fairy's forging skills are truly divine."

Gonuk smiled proudly: "Today is the perfect day to attach its eyes. You are the first wizards to witness a goblin forging something."

The basilisk's eyes are the source of its core power and are believed to be the root of its ability to fight poison with poison and counter Voldemort's immortality.

The children saw four fairies, with two round beads covered by black cloth hovering cautiously.

"We have forged its eyeballs into two gems, but its power has not yet been incorporated into the weapon, so it cannot be looked at directly yet."

The other fairies gave instructions, and the fairy who was hanging up first poured a certain amount of magma into the eye sockets of the basilisk skull. Then the other four fairies stood on both sides and manipulated the eyeballs to fall into the eye sockets little by little.

The black cloth was instantly burned away by the lava, revealing two dim, greenish-yellow snake eyes. However, their power was restrained by the basalt skeleton, so even though the children were watching, there was no danger.

"Great! No surprises!" Gonuk seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

"In the days to come, we will need to continue forging it, compressing its power and essence until it can kill its former master!"

Hermione watched with anticipation; this would be her weapon against Voldemort.
