Chapter 249 Practical Lessons for 3rd Grade
Chapter 249 Third-Year Practical Lesson
The presence of the titmouse did not affect Hermione's normal daytime life.
Those Squibs never show themselves in public; they seem to use key fobs to enter and exit, and even the Weasley twins have never encountered strangers while out at night.
As the first week of school passed, everyone gradually adapted to the new semester. Hogwarts slowly made its way north, and the members of the Order of the Phoenix, as if practicing, had already cleared several conspicuous Aberration dens along the way, contributing to the safety of the nearby settlements and adding new material to the students' Aberration lessons.
Today was the first practical lesson of the semester. Although Hermione wasn't required to attend, she was quite interested in seeing Professor Crouch's practical skills, so she followed Harry and the others to the practical lesson area.
As in previous years, the professors who didn't have classes watched from a distance, with Barty Jr. and Flitwick in the center. What was different this year was that the members of the Order of the Phoenix were also very interested in the students' practical skills and came over to join in the fun.
"They also want to know how their juniors are doing now," Moody said.
James had been hearing about Harry's exploits from Lily, including the summer when he wiped out a pack of werewolves. This made Mr. Potter very eager to see his son's abilities in person, so he took time out of his busy schedule to come over. However, when he saw Barty standing in the center, he snorted in annoyance.
Because there were so many onlookers, the children in class were a little nervous. In the past, if they didn't play well, they would at most get a few words of criticism from the professor, but now they were losing face in front of the senior members of the Order of the Phoenix.
"It's a new year again. I hope everyone has made progress after the summer vacation," Flitwick said loudly, standing on the box.
"This year we welcomed Professor Crouch, and I think he will bring a different kind of hands-on teaching to everyone."
Barty bowed politely to everyone: "Professor Lockhart received unanimous praise last year. Although I may not be as good as that ranger wizard who slew the basilisk, I will do my best to be a qualified practical instructor."
"Oh, don't say that, Barty. You graduated with twelve zeros. We never thought you were inferior to others in any way." Flitwick was always a nice guy.
"Because we've added a new teaching assistant specializing in Radiant Stones this year, a portion of the Defense Defence class will be converted into Radiant Stone Magic classes, which will be taught by our little teaching assistant, Miss Granger," Barty Jr. said, turning the conversation to Hermione, who was standing to the side.
"After today's practical lesson, your next defense lesson will be a Brilliant Stone Magic lesson. Everyone should prepare in advance," Hermione stepped forward and announced loudly.
She asked Mr. Lovegood to print textbooks that have been distributed to each grade. The textbooks for the first and second grades mostly contain the content of previously published papers, while those for the other grades are more advanced and more targeted.
"Alright, let's get back to our lesson. It's a new school year, and you'll have to learn something new." Flitwick could tell that Barty hadn't been very talkative lately, so he tried to keep the pace as much as possible.
"Professor, is there a reserved course this year? Is Hermione teaching Battle Defense?" Fred shouted from the group of fifth-year students.
Hermione smiled at this, because of what happened a couple of years ago, someone had already placed bets before class, betting on how many rounds Barty could last.
Crouch Jr. waved his hand with a wry smile: "I've heard about Miss Granger's fighting prowess; I'm afraid I'm no match for her."
Normally, if the professor said that, Hermione wouldn't fight with him. Last year, they only sparred because both of them happened to be itching for a fight.
The students sighed in disappointment. Because the combat class was easy to get injured, most people, except for combat fanatics like Harry, didn't really like it. But the first class of each year featured the famous scene of Hermione beating up the professor, which made everyone talk about it.
"Professor, I think this suggestion is good," Hermione suddenly said, challenging everyone to a duel, which surprised everyone.
Hermione is a formidable fighter, but she's usually quite passive and never actively invites Che. Why is she suddenly acting differently today?
Little Barty never expected that the fight he thought he could easily avoid would be brought up by the other side.
But from Hermione's perspective, she had many reasons to make the change.
Firstly, she didn't have a good impression of this Crouch patriarch, so it wouldn't be bad if she could have a legitimate fight with him.
Secondly, the professors had always been obsessed with his twelve zeros, and she was also very curious about what kind of magical level a genius who graduated through the proper channels possessed.
Thirdly, and most importantly, Professor McGonagall had reminded her to be mindful of projecting authority as a teaching assistant/professor. After much thought, she decided that beating up the defense professor would make the students more focused on her lecture.
Incidentally, in order to change her personality and cultivate her own "strong" mindset, she also needs to gradually change her previous passive way of doing things. Starting with challenging Little Barty is a very comfortable option.
"Although it's not a well-established rule, I think that being able to see their defense class's practical skills once a year would motivate the students to continue," she said with a smile.
Little Barty was taken aback by her words, but quickly came to his senses and said with a wry smile, "But I am indeed no match for you."
"If you agree, perhaps I can bring magical items and potions to the battle?"
Hermione understood. Pure-blood nobles often relied on external tools in combat. Lucius, for example, liked to use Muggle rifles and bombs in battle, and Barty Jr. was probably the same. Their wealth allowed them to purchase many items that increased their combat power.
She nodded: "Of course, we're just cutting, and I won't use any powerful spells."
"Here it comes, here it comes, the classic segment from previous years!" This time it wasn't the Geminis, but James and Sirius watching from afar.
The previous raiders pulled out a large sofa from their treasure pouches, levitated it in the air with a spell, and took out prepared snacks such as fries, cheering like spectators in the front row. Even Tonks grabbed Lupin's arm and pulled himself up on it, making Moody's face twitch.
"Place your bets now! Place your bets now! How many rounds can Professor Crouch last against Queen Granger? The betting is officially open!" Lee Jordan and George shouted as they weaved through the students, only to be dragged back to the fifth-year group by McGonagall's ears.
Before Hermione could even speak, Dumbledore, who was far away in the tower, expanded the dueling arena several times over to make it easier for the two of them to fight.
Hermione also noticed that Maria and several Blood Curse Orcs were peering through the windows of the tower.
"Everyone loves a good show," I thought to myself as I walked into the area.
Taking her staff from her back, she looked at Crouch, who had also walked in, and said, "Professor, if you're ready, come and attack."
