Chapter 276 Deterrence

Chapter 276 Deterrence

The giant, covered in wounds, fled the Forbidden Forest in a panic, along with several unfortunate five-legged monsters.

These strange creatures, whose bodies are pressed tightly against the ground, covered in thick scarlet fur, and with five deformed legs, are said to have been created by using malicious transformation magic on humans. They also have a particular craving for human flesh. In recent years, due to the mutations in the Forbidden Forest, they have become even more ferocious. Having not smelled the human scent for many years, they are also extremely physiologically hungry.

Driven out of the forest by the werewolves, they saw the majestic castle standing out abruptly in the shallow water not far away.

The giant gave a strange snort. It had never seen the huge creature in the distance before and had no idea what it was.

But the five-legged monsters around them seemed quite excited. Their fur was covered in scratches and bite marks from the werewolves, but they could smell the scent of humans they hadn't smelled in decades! It was in that huge "stone mountain" in front of them!

They ran forward happily, even though the water was almost half-submerged.

The giant didn't understand why the five-legged monsters were so excited, but he still followed out of curiosity. He dragged the huge tree trunk as a weapon and wanted to see what was inside the "stone mountain".

The swarming monsters clearly caught Hogwarts' attention, but no wizards came out to deal with them.

Only a fleeting flash of intense blue light.

With a brief buzz, the blue light left a slowly fading afterimage in the eyes of everyone watching.

The five-legged monsters that charged forward were instantly vaporized, leaving only the slower giants to stare in horror at what lay before them.

It didn't know what was happening. It only saw blue light shooting out from the rocky mountain, then smelled the burnt meat, followed by a huge amount of water vapor. Everything around it was white. It quickly turned around and fled to the safe forbidden forest. That rocky mountain was too terrifying!

"Shouldn't we destroy it too?" Hermione asked Dumbledore, holding a telescope.

"In the past, wizards would tame some intelligent giants who could understand simple words and become excellent guardians for the wizards," Dumbledore explained.

"That giant monster still knows fear, which means it has some intelligence. If it escapes back, it can prevent other giant monsters from coming in this direction. I think that would be more valuable than killing it."

Hermione nodded knowingly.

"I just hope our weapon really works this time." McGonagall still seemed a little anxious.

"Those werewolves are watching from the shadows of the woods; I can already see pairs of eerie green eyes."

"They're smart; they know the first one to go won't get away with it."

Lily had not yet completed the Lake Cauldron plan, and Hogwarts did not want to be attacked from both sides at this time. Therefore, after discussing it, the two headmasters decided to use the most powerful Radiant Stone Cannon to warn everyone and let them think twice about whether they had the ability to face this destructive light.

Clearly, this power was effective. Whether it was merfolk or centaurs, werewolves or Death Eaters, or even the Pied Piper hiding in the shadows, they were all deeply shocked by Hogwarts's strength.

The Green Flame Party members had witnessed this beam attack on Voldemort before, but they had missed it then and were too busy escaping to notice its power.

Everyone watching the beam of light that instantly annihilated a group of five-legged monsters and created a deep, straight crater in the underwater ground felt a chill run down their spines.

Is there anyone among them who can take on this brilliance?

Even their master avoided it back then, right?

So, during a group charge, should we pray that the laser cannon doesn't aim at us?

Indeed, Hogwarts faces numerous enemies in the present situation: mermaids in the water, biphasics in the air, werewolves and centaurs on the ground, as well as infernals controlled by the Death Eaters and countless creatures from the Forbidden Forest. How many of these incredibly powerful light cannons can they fire at the same time? If they miss, all the power is wasted.

But someone has to be the unlucky one, so why can't it be me?

Those trapped in darkness are happy to see their companions suffer, but if they themselves are also within that probability, then there's a high probability...

They would choose to back down and let others go first.

Therefore, the situation became strangely calm again. Even the mermaids and centaurs knew that a rash attack at this moment would only be easily evaporated by the light cannons, and they wouldn't even be able to get close to the castle.

They still have to wait, but no one seems to know what they're waiting for.

Hogwarts was pleased with this situation, as ample time gave them more opportunities to set up their defenses.

In addition to the members of the Order of the Phoenix who were originally stationed at the castle, more people came over through the fireplace.

Mrs. Pandora, with a few people, erected runic banners around the school, just like those in Weasel Hill; James also arrived with the pioneers of Godric Cliff Street, layering super armor and various defensive spells on Hogwarts' original barrier again and again.

All classes at the school were suspended, and the professors were all busy.

Professor Sprout, who was always quiet, carried out one pot after another of dangerous and magical plant seedlings from the deepest, locked greenhouse.

"Plant them in the soil leading to the highlands! Mix dragon manure and moon fox dung together in a 9:1 ratio! Remember to bury them deep so they don't get washed away by the rain!" she shouted to the students who excelled in herbalism, including Neville.

Thanks to the high ground created by Hermione, even if the enemy crossed the water, they would have to charge uphill for a while before they could get close to the castle.

They carefully planted many magical plants, such as Devil's Web, Bitter Willow, Poison Tentacles, Biting Cabbage, Poisonous Fang Geranium, and Iron Fence. Under Sprout's care, these plants would temporarily fall into dormancy until they were activated by her magic and transformed into ferocious predators.

Flitwick, along with members of the Spells Research Journal, walked through the shallow water, casting spells as they went. They laid down various obscure trap spells, ensuring that the students and teachers would not leave for a while. These spells would only be activated by malicious intruders.

Several black wizards arrived in Vagado. They had made prior arrangements with Lily and brought a large quantity of voodoo potions and animal traps, which they intended to use to deal with the large mutant beasts on the African continent.

However, these are not free; Lily will have to brew a lot of high-end medicines for them to pay off her debts later.

Hermione was the only one still teaching in the castle. She arranged the students of each grade to various towers and nodes according to the previous assignments for the final rehearsal.

The students had only studied systematically for less than two months, and most of them were still only half-baked, but they had no choice but to bite the bullet and get on with it.

Just as planned, the first and second graders wouldn't be able to help much, mainly just assisting, but starting from the third grade, everyone had to be on standby at all times, because the enemy's attack could come at any moment.

One after another, wizard friends invited by various professors arrived at the school, but many of them simply dropped off supplies and left. Although they had confidence in Hogwarts, they did not want to take risks themselves, and the professors understood this.

Many more wizards who were supposed to come were nowhere to be seen, and it was unclear what had prevented them from showing up.
