Chapter 296 A Strange Turn of Events
Inside the circle surrounded by Fiendfyre, Barty Jr. and Snape were having a lively exhibition match.
The spells, with their vivid light effects, collided and looked incredibly powerful, but in reality, they were just for show.
Unbeknownst to them, the two had shifted the center of the battlefield to above Lily's poisonous fog, ready to change targets at any moment.
The attack was carried out on the person hiding among them.
"Stop resisting, you know you can't escape." Snape said from mid-air, summoning a whirlwind to lift Lily's poisonous mist high into the sky.
Barty seemed oblivious, busy dealing with the snakes and raptors summoned by Snape one by one.
The potions professor, who had been hiding in the poisonous fog, finally revealed herself. She waved her wand, blasting away the Swiftness spell that had been secretly fired by someone, and transformed into a wisp of white smoke that shot into the sky.
But Snape, like a cold-faced Grim Reaper, struck with a sharp, invisible blade in an instant, forcing her back to the ground.
"Come to me, and I will protect you!" Barty shouted, firing a spell at Snape, but it was easily deflected.
Lily gave him a disdainful look, as if he were an idiot.
"Snape, it's not too late for you to turn back now," Lily said.
But the man in the air ignored him and continued to use the spell to gradually restrict her movements.
Lily frowned, and several bottles of sparkling incense rolled from her waist. Guided by her spell, the sticky pollen mixed with flames splashed out, forcing back Little Barty who wanted to get close, while she once again soared into the sky.
Balls of fire flew in circles toward Snape, attempting to distract him, while Lily silently drank a potion and shot off like an arrow to the other side.
But Little Barty appeared silently in front of her, using a silent spell to cast a red light of a stun spell to stop her.
Behind her, Snape also shot out ropes with snake heads, which flew over to bind her.
Surrounded by wolves in front and tigers behind, Lily could only fight back with magic like a wolf and a fox. The three of them fought fiercely over the raging fire, and from the outside, it was impossible to tell that Little Barty was actually making things worse!
"Lily! Hang in there!" James shouted as he raced forward, waving the light of his guardian spirit. He was so close, but he just couldn't get past that distance.
This, in turn, allowed Snape and Barty to speed up their offensive pace.
"Force her down, and I'll take her away in the chaos!" Barty Jr. said quickly as he and Snape exchanged spells and passed each other.
Snape understood, flew above Lily's head, and his wand flashed green: "Avada Kedavajra!"
With all their might, they cast the spell, and an astonishing green light illuminated the rain curtain.
Lily quickly ducked down, but even if she hadn't dodged, Snape's killing curse wouldn't have hit her. He was just aiming at an empty space; it only looked scary.
Little Barty, intentionally or unintentionally, released a strong wind, making Lily unsteady in the air, looking precarious, as if she was about to be hit.
But the three people present knew each other quite well. This act might seem dangerous to outsiders, but they all knew that it couldn't possibly hurt Lily, who was almost the most outstanding young woman of her time.
With this in mind, Barty and Snape worked together to use this intimidating killing curse to force Lily to the ground.
But an accident still happened.
Whether it was because she was too tired from working these past few days, or because she panicked in the face of such a crisis, she didn't know.
Lily, amidst the strong winds stirred up by Barty Jr., actually charged headfirst into Snape's Death Curse!
"Ah!" A scream pierced the rain.
The deadly green light struck Lily directly!
"No!" James and Harry cried out immediately afterward.
Hermione leaned against the railing, her face ashen.
Even Dumbledore and Voldemort temporarily stopped fighting and turned to look east.
That frail figure fell, plunging straight into the raging flames.
The two men in the battle were also stunned. They didn't even try to catch the corpse immediately. Instead, they stared in shock at the magic wand in their hands. Everything happened so fast that they didn't have time to react.
"Barty! What are you doing?!" Voldemort roared angrily.
They clearly agreed to stage a desperate escape, so why did they suddenly cast a killing curse and kill Lily? What happened to the protection they promised?!
Above the raging fire, Little Barty seemed oblivious to his master's scolding, contentedly watching the black flames below.
He had summoned it, and he knew how powerful it was. Anything that could be ignited would turn to ashes in an instant, and he couldn't even save the corpse.
Snape, on the other hand, who had cast the Killing Curse, jolted in mid-air and suddenly protested, "No! That's not true! I didn't!"
The next moment, James, his eyes bloodshot, roared from the shore.
He threw down his broom, transformed into a magnificent stag, and charged through the encirclement of the two-faced monsters.
His animal form is immune to the monsters' influence, but his stag form is just a larger animal and has no advantage against werewolves.
But he can't care about that now, he wants revenge!
Hagrid, who had been holding onto Harry, was stunned. He unconsciously loosened his grip, giving Harry a chance to break free. Without saying a word, the boy used the Levitation Charm to leap out of the barrier.
"Ah!" Falling back into the fiery circle, Little Barty looked at the empty flames, lowered his head, and suddenly let out a wounded roar.
The biphasic creatures circling around him were now an eyesore. He waved his wand, and a bright white light flashed. A deer suddenly jumped out of his wand, driving away all the annoying black shadows!
What's going on?!
Still reeling from Lily's sudden death, Little Barty, whom everyone had always assumed couldn't summon a guardian spirit, actually summoned a physical deer guardian spirit!?
Same as Lily's?
Could it be that he's fallen in love with Lily?!
This is the only possibility: the guardian spirit will only change if the person falls in love with the other person!
But! That's Little Barty! A pure-blooded nobleman full of scheming and self-interest!
"Barty!" The wounded stag leaped into the Fiendfire, transforming back into Jaime's form.
His eyes were bloodshot: "You're insulting her!"
The wounds inflicted by the werewolf were still bleeding, but he ignored them, gulping down a vial of wolfsbane potion and waving his wand.
Turning pebbles and rainwater into sharp blades, the storm-like ball of steel enveloped Snape in the air and Barty on the ground!
"You will all be buried with her!"
But Barty Jr. paid no heed to James's death threat, ignored the rapidly spinning ball of knives, and stared at Snape in the air with bloodshot eyes.
The surrounding flames seemed to change with his mood, and the black curse, like flowing water, drew the flames together.
He silently opened a bottle of potion and drank it, then leaped into the Fiendfire. Just like when he fought Hermione last time, he rode the Fiendfire towards Snape.
The man in the air was clearly flustered, faced with Voldemort's questioning and the two powerful wizards before him, their eyes filled with hatred.
He's obviously going to die here today.
He quickly spoke up, "Severus! You know I didn't kill him!"
But his words surprised everyone again.
He calls Barty the Younger Severus, so who is Hevin?
Then, as if remembering something, he quickly pointed his wand at himself.
A ripple-like change emanated from him, his skin and hair color rapidly altered, and in the blink of an eye, he transformed from a gloomy Potions Master into a blond-haired Barty Crouch Jr.!
"He's Crouch!" Hagrid nearly dropped his jaw in astonishment.
"And who is that little Barty down there?!"
The answer was obvious; he had already called out the other person's name.
Hermione felt a chill in her heart. No one had expected that Voldemort's two top wizards would switch identities!
