Chapter 443 Countermeasures
"Impossible!" Little Star exclaimed in horror.
"Even first-year students know that the power of a spell is directly proportional to the strength of magic power. Where would the fairies get so much energy to wipe out all of humanity with a single ritual!"
"Forget about exterminating humanity, they can't even erase magic!"
However, Sechenov was only a figure in the photograph; he was unable to answer Little Star's question.
"I don't understand your magic and that of fairies, but according to the information I have, the Extinction Faction has been planning this for fifty years."
"Since they can make winter last for fifty years, I think it's best not to treat it as a joke."
Silence fell in the hall once more as the three living people began to ponder the words of the deceased scientist.
Sechenov seemed to deliberately give the listener time to think; he turned and disappeared from the image, only to reappear a moment later.
"Here's a summary of the intelligence I've gathered." He was holding a notebook.
"1. The Wish Fulfillment Cup is not yet complete, but it will take at the latest eight months."
As he spoke, he tore off the paper and lit it with a lighter.
"2. The Cup of Fulfillment is built in the Fairy Cave of the Extinction Faction. I only know one possible entrance—the Eye of Hell Mine."
"3. The fairies are secretly hunting down wizards, alive or dead." He pondered for a moment.
"Maybe you can go to Warsaw and see if it's still not too late." His voice trailed off as he spoke.
Suddenly, a loud boom came from the background of the video, as if the entire fortress was shaking.
Sechenov turned his head and glanced at it.
"My time is running out. They won't rest until they see my body. Adam, go find Mr. Pettigrew, yes, that strange flying squirrel."
As he spoke, he gave instructions to the boy.
"We must see the Dark Lord, and only play the footage after we've ensured it's safe to do so!"
Explosions and screams came from the corridor.
"Father, I'll go."
A girl, exquisitely beautiful like a porcelain doll, walked out of the room without fear.
"Fairies possess a certain divination and search technique. Everyone who knows this secret will be found. This recording will be destroyed after its first playback. Please keep it a secret!"
Sechenov raised his eyes one last time, as if gazing at Grindelwald from afar.
"Finally, I have a personal request—please take good care of that child—"
The video abruptly stopped, Adam withdrew the light from his eyes, and his gaze became lively again.
"My mission is complete. Can you send me back to find my father now?" He had no idea what was playing on the video.
"Your father is dead," Little Star said impatiently, still reeling from the terrible news.
"Death is the cessation of energy metabolism in a biological sense and the irreversible loss of organismal function. Father, are you dead?"
The two men weren't in the mood to answer him, and Grindelwald rubbed his temples, deep in thought.
"Yes, your father died, and he entrusted you to us on his last day," Hermione replied.
"I should feel sad," Adam said, his eyes lowered and his tone slow.
"But you have no soul. Your sadness is just a performance of code," Hermione said coldly. Robots have no souls. She didn't understand the workings of the polymer inside the boy, but clearly, it didn't truly reveal any sadness.
"Yes, I have a sadness mode in my emotional protocol, which is expressed through changes in tone of voice, slow or low movements," Adam admitted frankly.
"But based on logic and mission, I did experience a sense of 'loss' due to the passing of my creator—a void created by the loss of the service's purpose."
"My father wanted me to be more human, but I don't understand how the soul and consciousness are different from my code."
Hermione shook her head.
"Stop studying that lump of iron, let's worry about the survival of humanity," Grindelwald interrupted.
"Regardless of whether the news is true or false, we cannot gamble on the mercy of the Extinction Faction demons."
"The Wish-Fulfilling Cup—that certainly has a fairy-like style." He muttered, analyzing the feasibility of the magic.
"The most urgent task is to stop the ceremony from continuing. We still have plenty of time! Sechenov said there are still eight months!" Little Star said anxiously.
"Find the location of the fairy cave, break through the defenses, and disrupt the ritual!" He said, his brows furrowed, his chubby face gradually turning ashen.
This is almost impossible. The wizards spent fifty years trying to find the Extinction Party's goblin cave, and even if they had, the defenses at the entrance would certainly not be weak.
Moreover, if things go wrong, the fairies can sever the connection between the cave entrance and the fairy cave, making it extremely difficult to break in and disrupt the ritual.
"The only way is through infiltration. The Intelligence Division needs to go to the Eye of Hell mine immediately and activate our spies in the Far East to gather as much intelligence as possible," Grindelwald said with his eyes slightly closed.
"But we need to be prepared for both possibilities; we can't put all our hopes on finding the Fairy Cave."
"Order the Press Censorship Department to immediately begin promoting the nobility of wizards, and from this day forward, we are no longer human, but descendants of gods."
The Dark Lord immediately thought of a way to deal with the wish that "there are no humans". The rigid wish machine usually cannot recognize the difference in titles, so it can be deceived by changing the concept.
"But that's not foolproof. Perhaps the Wish Cup works based on the goblins' understanding of the human realm," Hermione said.
"So I have a second measure," the old man said, looking at her.
"The Wishing Cup is meant to exterminate all of humanity, so the Fairy Cave must open its connection the moment the wish is fulfilled, placing them in the same world as Earth. They can't be seen by my Heavenly Eye if they hide, but if they actively expose themselves..."
Hermione understood Grindelwald's idea: as long as they arrived at the Cup of Fulfillment as quickly as possible the moment it appeared and destroyed it with Fiendfyre, at most some of the weaker Muggles would die first, and the wizards would most likely survive.
The witch thought for a moment: "I can persuade Gonuk to build more goblin caves so that innocent people can take refuge."
But whether those who advocated coexistence would never betray her, she didn't know. Grindelwald simply ignored the suggestion. Besides...
If over a hundred fairies were to build a fairy cave, how big could it be, and how many people from all over the world could it hold?
Wen Yu's Gu Ling Lan took over a thousand years to reach that scale.
Moreover, the UMNO party would never entrust their lives to the demons.
Hermione hesitated for a moment, then pulled a silver ring from her pocket: "This might come in handy."
At the Volgograd nuclear reactor, the arrogant fairy she encountered assumed the reactor was doomed to explode and left without setting a self-destruct spell on the one-time door knocker.
Although it was a one-time use item, the wizards were able to reverse-engineer it, making it easier than finding a hole in the ground.
She hadn't wanted to give it to Grindelwald before, but now, hiding it wasn't a good idea.
The Dark Lord took the door knocker, gave Hermione a meaningful look, but said nothing.
"Very good, I will gather the best anti-spell experts and make sure to find out the location of the fairy cave as soon as possible."
"Then I shall take my leave, Master." Seeing that there was nothing more for him to do, Little Star humbly lowered his head, intending to leave the palace.
"Wait!" Hermione called out to him.
The instant he turned around.
"Forget everything, and all is emptiness!"
A beam of gray light struck him.
"What are you doing?" Grindelwald frowned, thinking Hermione was punishing the traitor.
The witch shook her head: "He's not strong enough; it's best if he doesn't have any memories of the Cup of Fulfillment in his head."
Fairies also possess divination magic. Sechenov thought he had been discreet enough, but he was still approached by the authorities.
Only two great wizards were able to retain such memories without fear of being discovered.
As for the others, they just need to remember their own jobs.
"Find the goblin cave near the Eye of Hell mine, secretly!" Hermione instructed the bewildered Pettigrew.
