Chapter 89 The Knight's Great Bow
The tavern was pitch black, with only a few slivers of light filtering through the cracks. Lily's potion mist obscured the basilisk's vision, but it also prevented those inside from observing the situation outside.
Old Tom, with two wild wizards, shielded the children in the middle, while the Muggles around them busied themselves pressurizing the steam canisters of the pneumatic rifles. No one spoke, but with the tremors and screams from the outside world, everyone's heart trembled.
"Are we just going to wait like this?" Harry said, sounding a little impatient. "What if Professor Lockhart and Mum—"
"We can't get Professor Lily's potion out of us, can we?" Neville gripped his wand tightly. It was the standard product that the Longbottoms had given him when they last visited him. It wasn't very useful, but it was better than nothing.
"This potion is dangerous. If I were you, I wouldn't try to touch it." A man tried to approach the mist, but Hermione dissuaded him.
Suddenly, a dark figure rushed in through the fog, but before anyone in the tavern could see him clearly, he screamed and turned into a puddle of thick water.
Now, everyone moved far away from the fog and shrank towards the center of the tavern. Lily couldn't be lenient with the potion she had laid to protect the children.
The fighting outside continues, but those inside the tavern can only await their fate, a truly unbearable feeling.
Hermione wasn't one to sit idly by. After thinking for a moment, she asked old Tom, "Where's the staircase leading to the attic?"
Old Tom, not understanding what was going on, pointed her in the right direction. Hermione grabbed her staff and rushed upstairs.
The potion mist could obstruct vision, but it couldn't block Hermione's third eye. The commotion the basilisk made was too great; Hermione could easily activate her abilities and pinpoint the basilisk's location simply by using her senses.
She climbed up to the attic, followed by old Tom, who was panting heavily.
"What are you going to do?"
Hermione didn't answer. She kicked a piece of broken glass, used the Levitation Charm to flip out the window, and jumped onto the roof of the bar.
Beyond the black tiles, a white mist hung in the air. Hermione jumped to the top of the chimney and closed her eyes to concentrate.
All around, there were the hissing sounds of spells tearing through the air, explosions and screams, the writhing and crushing of basilisks, and red, blue, green and other colored lights reflected on the white mist, like a messy canvas.
She focused intently on sensing the strongest tremor, as a colossal, mountain-like black shadow emitted a grating scream.
When she opened her eyes again, they were filled with a fluorescent blue light, and the location of the basilisk was clearly reflected in her eyes, every move of it was clearly visible.
Heavenly Eye triggered!
The next moment, the staff in her hand began to glow, and the abundant radiance energy from the Golden Snitch she carried with her was released.
She raised her staff, and a huge energy longbow materialized, with arrows also made of sapphire energy taking shape.
Below, old Tom, who was peering out the window, was so astonished he could hardly close his mouth and almost forgot to breathe.
Loretta's Great Bow!
Loretta, the Royal Guard Knight, possesses magic that creates weapons from magical energy. By charging up the energy, the power of these weapons can be greatly increased, allowing her to unleash deadly arrows.
Gather your strength!
The light emanating from the great bow expanded by one ring.
Charge up again!
Like a dazzling new star, it expands once again!
Hermione stared intently at the basilisk's body. She couldn't see Lockhart's figure through her third eye, but she could roughly determine the professor's location by the direction of the snake's head. To avoid accidentally injuring him, she decided to attack the basilisk's bloated lower abdomen.
The dazzling light became even more concentrated, and the powerful air currents almost forced the magic potion mist away.
Finally, reaching her limit, Hermione loosened her grip, and the azure radiant arrow vanished in the blink of an eye.
Outside the tavern, Lily fends off the Death Eaters' attacks. More and more people run behind cover, and some brave wizards even raise their wands with Lily to fight back.
At that moment, she felt her magic being activated and quickly turned around to look. Above the tavern, which was shrouded in white mist, a dazzling blue light was almost breaking through the fog's barrier.
The next moment, lightning flashed, piercing through clouds and splitting rocks, leaving a pale blue scorch mark in the air.
boom!
What followed was an explosion and the wails of the basilisk.
Looking up, a shockingly huge gash was clearly visible on the belly of the giant snake in the distance. The charred wound was torn open, and unable to support its massive head, it collapsed to the ground.
Everyone was startled. What kind of magic was this that could directly shatter the basilisk's incredibly magic-resistant scales and cause such massive damage?
Who cast this spell, and why is he hiding in the fog? If he had joined the battle sooner, wouldn't the tide of battle have been turned much faster?
Lockhart turned around in surprise, and even the Death Eater leader who had been attacking him paused, looking down at the Basilisk's condition.
Only Lily looked relieved; she knew that only one person could perform such powerful radiance magic.
Just as everyone was undecided, the severely injured basilisk shakily raised its head again.
Its horrific abdominal wound still clung to rotting flesh, but a layer of green light shone through it, supporting its mobility.
"hold head high!"
The piercing scream brought everyone back to reality. This basilisk had been modified by Voldemort! Its vitality had only become stronger! A single blow wouldn't kill it completely; instead, it would only enrage it further!
"Go, kill the wizard in the fog!" the Death Eater leader ordered, then transformed into a wisp of black smoke and rushed towards Lockhart in the sky. He was going to use all his energy to deal with the trouble in front of him.
This command suited the basilisk perfectly, and its massive body twisted as it charged toward the tavern at an incredible speed.
"This is troublesome!" Lily frowned.
She pulled out bottle after bottle of potions, waving her wand to vaporize them all. Together with the white mist that had been surrounding the tavern, they reacted to form a huge and deadly cloud of pale purple potions.
Fortunately, most of the people who were supposed to escape had already fled, so there was little concern about accidental injury. Lily waved her wand again, creating a strong gust of wind that blew the deadly cloud toward the basilisk.
The Death Eaters blocking the way, the clever ones, sensing the danger, had already flown away, while the less clever ones, unaware of what the cloud represented, were foolishly enveloped by the fog and disappeared silently into it the next moment.
Then, the blue light on the roof shone brightly again, and when everyone looked up, Hermione's petite figure came into view, no longer obscured by the fog.
Is it really such a young girl?
This thought crossed everyone's mind.
The great bow was drawn back, wider and wider, and a new round of charging began. Without the obstruction of the white mist, the basilisk stared at her with deadly eyes, but Hermione had already closed her eyes and was aiming purely with her third eye.
A terrifying wind of potion swept through, causing the basilisk's scales to hiss and emit large amounts of white smoke, melting away at a visible speed. But the basilisk, its ferocity aroused, showed no sign of retreating and continued to charge toward the tavern. The dazzling blue light had attracted enough hatred for it to vent its rage.
A green aura, brimming with death, condensed in the basilisk's mouth, mixing with venom and the carcasses it had previously devoured, and spewed out towards the tavern.
