Reborn in Tokyo: From Heiress to Global Tycoon

Chapter 394 Saionji Temple, Kanin, Hongo

Chapter 394 Saionji Temple, Kanin, Hongo

Mid-March, Hongo, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo.

The doorbell rang once, and the door was quickly opened from the inside.

Satsuki stood outside the door, wearing a light-colored short jacket, her long hair casually draped over her shoulders, a gentle smile on her face. Chizuru stood quietly behind her, carrying the small bag Satsuki always used when she went out.

Amy, who opened the door, paused for half a second, then her eyes lit up.

"Satsuki-chan!"

She didn't even bother to look at her shoes before rushing over, hugging Satsuki tightly, and rubbing against her shoulders a few times.

"I miss you so much... You didn't even tell me about your graduation ceremony."

Satsuki was knocked back a little by the bump, and raised her hand to support Amy's waist to prevent the two of them from falling at the doorway.

"I heard Satsuki-chan's graduation speech was super cool!"

Amy finally raised her head and looked at Satsuki with pleading eyes, her lips pursed in a wronged manner.

"Unfortunately, I didn't see anything."

She had been spending the last few days in her research lab at the University of Tokyo, and by the time she heard the news from Shimomura, the graduation ceremony was already over.

Shimomura wasn't very interested in the content of the speech and relayed it rather perfunctorily, repeating the same sentence over and over again: "Satsuki openly recruited people at the school, which scared the principal half to death."

Amy later asked around among several people, and the versions she heard were increasingly exaggerated. By last night, someone was already saying that Satsuki had announced at the graduation ceremony that the Saionji family would take over all the factories in Tokyo.

"Your project has just reached a critical stage, so I didn't have anyone notify you."

Satsuki reached out and poked her forehead.

"Didn't you say it yourself?" Satsuki cleared her throat, mimicking Amy's usual tone at the company, "Yes, no one is allowed to bother me for the next few days."

Amy's ears turned slightly red as she listened to Satsuki mimicking her tone, but she still held onto her tightly and continued to look at her with those big, watery eyes.

Satsuki and she stared at each other for a while, and finally Satsuki sighed helplessly.

"Alright, tell me, what kind of compensation do you want?"

Amy seemed to have been waiting for these words, and immediately moved a little closer.

"I want a kiss..."

Before she could finish speaking, Satsuki had already flicked her finger and struck her forehead.

"You little brat, you're really pushing your luck."

Satsuki pushed away Amy, who was clinging to her, and walked past her into the house.

Amy stood by the door, covering her forehead, looking at Chizuru with a wronged expression.

"Sister Chizuru..."

"Ms. Suzuki."

Chizuru nodded slightly to her, then closed the door behind her and followed Satsuki inside.

Amy stood there for two seconds, and when she realized that Chizuru had no intention of comforting her, she could only rub her forehead and chase after her.

"Amy, are you settling in well here?"

Satsuki's voice could be heard coming from the living room.

"Yes! Very good!"

Amy quickened her pace and stepped onto the soft carpet into the living room.

Satsuki had already taken off her coat and leaned back on the sofa. She looked around and realized that the apartment was very different from the design drawings she had seen last time.

Several workstations were placed in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows facing the university. The original high-end solid wood table had been pushed against the wall, and the large dining table was covered with various blueprints, floppy disks, and disassembled electronic devices. At the other end of the sofa, there were two open professional journals, with a roll of recently used solder lying next to them.

The decorative paintings that the group specially commissioned to select are still hanging on the wall, but one of them is now half-blocked by white wiring.

Amy didn't see anything wrong with the house at all.

She walked over and sat down next to Satsuki, almost pressing her entire body against him.

"It's really comfortable living here. All the facilities are very convenient, and it's close to both the school and the company. When I come back late from the lab at night, the people downstairs even arrange a car for me."

As she spoke, she pointed to the terminal embedded in the wall next to the entrance.

"That works really well too. Messages from the school, the company, and downstairs are all stored in it. When I came back yesterday, I also found that SIS had changed the access control system again."

"They said the old system's card reading speed was a fraction of a second slower, so it needed to be replaced."

Satsuki glanced at her hand.

"Kan'in Hongo was one of the first buildings to be put into use, so SIS will naturally use it to test the new equipment. Since you live on the top floor, any problems will be most easily discovered."

Amy blinked.

"So, am I a tester too?"

"We've already given you the top floor, so we should at least get some usage reports, right?"

Satsuki spoke as if it were perfectly reasonable.

"Next time the systems department comes, remember to tell them about any problems you encounter while using it. Don't just let them in and then run back to the studio yourself."

"Okay."

Amy readily agreed verbally, but her body had already comfortably sunk into the sofa.

Saionji Kanin Hongo is one of the earliest completed luxury residences in the Kanin series.

At the height of the bubble economy, Satsuki ordered the sale of a large amount of land under Saionji's name that was of little use.

In those years, land prices in Tokyo changed every day. While many conglomerates were still acquiring land everywhere, Saionji kept handing over land in exchange for cash and overseas assets. At one point, the land area under the group's name shrank to the bottom of the list of large conglomerates.

Now, those companies that were once scrambling to buy land are lining up to ask banks for extensions.

As banks accumulate more and more collateral, half-developed luxury residential buildings, street-front commercial buildings, and former company sites in prime locations are also returning to the market. Saionji Real Estate has selected the best-located properties with the clearest title rights and incorporated them into the "Saionji Kanin" series.

This series is exclusively located in prime, easily accessible areas of Tokyo. Each building is named after its location, and projects in Hongo, Kioicho, Azabu, and Shiroganedai are currently undergoing renovation or construction. While the exterior and floor plan can be adjusted according to the location, access control, communication, power supply, security, and living services will all adhere to the same stringent standards. SIS's new systems will also be prioritized for trial implementation in these residences.

The building where Amy lives is officially named "Saionji Kan'in Hongo".

The main structure of the Hongo Building had already been completed, but the developer ran out of funds before the opening of the project. After Saionji took over, he demolished the interior decoration that was already mostly installed, re-laid communication lines, and replaced all the security, power, and residential equipment with the highest specifications that the group could provide.

The number of penthouse apartments is limited and is mainly reserved for senior executives, core technical personnel, and long-term overseas experts. Even if ordinary residents have money, they may not be able to secure a place.

The reason Amy was given this penthouse suite was because it's very close to the University of Tokyo, so she wouldn't have to travel halfway through Tokyo to get to her research lab, and it's also very convenient to go to the SIS headquarters in Shinbashi. The penthouse also has a direct elevator to the roof, and it was originally intended as housing for the group's core personnel.

Amy has little interest in land, title, or apartment branding.

She was more concerned about whether the wiring inside the wall was fast enough, whether the power supply was stable, and whether the security guards downstairs would stop her from bringing back the strange equipment from Akihabara.

"Thank you, Satsuki-chan."

Amy turned her head and looked at her intently.

I really like this gift.

"Hmm, you're an important employee of our group, so of course you should enjoy employee benefits."

Satsuki sat up straight, reached out and cupped Amy's cheeks, then vigorously rubbed them together.

"You'd better create value for this group, do you hear me?"

Amy's face was squeezed out of shape, but she made no attempt to move away.

"Hmm... I know, I'll try my best."

Satsuki thought it felt good and kneaded it for a while longer.

"You can't dodge this either; providing entertainment for the group's leader is also a very important task."

Amy let her pinch and squeeze her, mumbling incoherently about how much work she had recently accomplished. Towards the end, even she couldn't hear herself clearly anymore, only managing to widen her eyes to show her commitment.

Chizuru stood to the side, already used to the scene before her. She glanced at the time and waited until Satsuki had finally finished playing before going over to straighten the coat draped over the sofa armrest.

Satsuki released her grip, looking with satisfaction at the red mark left on Amy's cheek, before standing up.

"Alright, let's go."

Amy raised her hand and rubbed her face, then stood up as well.

"We're all ready, but where are we going, Satsuki-chan?"

Satsuki had already walked towards the entrance.

"Let's go to Odaiba."

"Odaiba?"

Amy followed behind, thought for a while, and then suddenly stopped.

"Is the computer cluster at the base of Saionji Pagoda about to be powered on?"

Satsuki turned around and glanced at her.

"That's right. The first batch of machines is undergoing overall testing today. The village has already been visited, and now we're just waiting for you."

"Really?"

Amy's voice suddenly rose, and she didn't care about her cheeks that had just been rubbed red. She quickly caught up with Satsuki.

"It's built so quickly? Is it the i860 parallel array we collaborated on with Intel? The interconnects are finished too? And the storage system is all connected?"

She asked questions very quickly, one after another.

She was involved in the design and manufacturing process of this equipment.

Amy had reviewed detailed plans regarding the arrangement of processing nodes, task splitting, and how to exit computation for faulty nodes. A significant portion of the scheduling program written for SIS was also created by her and Shimomura. When the equipment was shipped from the US to Japan, she even checked the packing list daily, fearing that customs or the shipping company might lose any of the boxes.

She knew what would happen under the table.

Knowing this made her even more eager to see it with her own eyes.

The more than five hundred nodes on the blueprints were ultimately just boxes, and the numbers in the operation logs were untouchable. Only when the machines were actually arranged in the server room, with all the indicator lights on at the same time, could she confirm that what she and Shimomura had been working on for so long was truly finished.

"Of course, that's the one."

Satsuki pressed the elevator call button next to the entrance hall.

"The computing center is built at the base of the tower, and the construction sequence was originally scheduled for the top. The Saionji Pagoda is almost finished, and we're only starting overall testing now, so the progress is already considered slow."

"Let's hurry over there!"

Before the elevator even arrived, Amy was already standing in front of the door, turning back to urge Satsuki on.

"It wouldn't be good to keep Mr. Shimomura waiting too long. He's probably already secretly started testing, and he might even have modified my program first."

Satsuki strolled over leisurely, and seeing Amy so anxious she wanted to pry open the elevator door, she couldn't help but laugh.

"What's the rush? The machine isn't going to run away by itself."

"That's not necessarily true, Satsuki-chan."

Amy suddenly remembered something, and her excited expression turned slightly worried.

"By the way, Satsuki-chan, the Touchstone DELTA is a model that was commissioned by the US government, right? The one we developed in collaboration with Intel, although it has its own factory involved in manufacturing and the structure has been modified, is still very similar in core concept."

She lowered her voice, as if discussing a secret operation that could happen at any moment.

"What if the Americans suddenly change their minds and take the machines back?"

The elevator arrived, and the doors opened to both sides.

Satsuki stepped into the sedan chair, turned around, looked at Amy standing outside, and thought seriously for a while.

"That's quite possible."

Amy's expression immediately tensed up.

Satsuki continued:

"We might just arrive in Odaiba when American agents will jump down from the sky and carry the whole machine back to Washington."

Amy paused for a moment.

"That machine must weigh several tons, right?"

"so?"

Does "American agent" refer to Captain America?

Satsuki finally couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.

"Exactly, then why are you even considering this kind of question?"

She reached out and pulled Amy into the elevator, straightened her collar, and buttoned up the top button of her coat.

"I've already taken care of things in the US. There are official documents regarding equipment exports, technology licensing, and Intel's involvement. Nobody will come to Odaiba to move machines just for this."

"Like this..."

Amy looked down at Satsuki's fingers as she straightened her clothes.

A luxury apartment, a place near the University of Tokyo, the computing equipment she wanted, and Satsuki personally came to pick her up.

She suddenly felt that she was probably the happiest person in the world.

"Satsuki-chan, you're so kind."

"Um?"

Satsuki smoothed out the last few wrinkles for her and withdrew her hand with satisfaction.

"It's good that you know."

Just as Amy was about to laugh, she heard Satsuki continue:

"Stay in Odaiba for the next few days; there's still a lot of work waiting for you there."

"Why?"

Amy's smile vanished.

Satsuki turned her head away, pretending not to see her reaction.

"I've already asked someone to arrange leave for you at school. The lab's materials will be delivered to Odaiba this afternoon. This is the first time the new system has been fully operational, and there will definitely be a lot of changes to be made later. You and Shimomura should focus on contributing to the company these next few days."

"Wait a minute, Satsuki-chan, how come I had no idea about this?"

"Now I know."

"What I brought..."

"Chizuru has already made preparations."

Amy looked at Chizuru standing behind her.

Chizuru nodded calmly.

"Your change of clothes, research materials, and frequently used equipment will be delivered to Odaiba by this evening. The leave application process at the University of Tokyo's research institute has also been completed."

Amy opened her mouth, only to realize that everything had already been arranged.

It seems she's been "kidnapped" again... Why "again"?

The elevator continued upwards, quickly skipping the eighteenth floor. Above the top-floor apartment was a closed area where ordinary residents' magnetic cards couldn't keep the elevator running. After Satsuki entered, the indicator lights on the control panel automatically lit up.

A moment later, the elevator came to a stop.

When the door opened, a passageway enclosed by glass appeared first.

The March wind lashed against the glass. Outside the isolation door at the end of the passage, a dark gray helicopter was already parked on the roof. Several security personnel from Saionji Temple stood guard at the edge of the take-off and landing area, while ground crew conducted final checks, and the rotor began to slowly turn.

Amy's attention immediately shifted from being "scheduled to work for several days in a row" to the helicopter.

Satsuki took the earmuffs from Chizuru and handed them to her.

"Just focus on your work for the next few days."

Amy looked at the earmuffs, then at Satsuki, and suddenly smiled.

She took the earmuffs, put them on, stood up straight, and raised her hand in a not-so-standard salute.

"Yes, Boss!"
